A little bit about my books
I love to write. I’ve been doing it in some fashion my whole life. I got my first job out of college with a seven-page resume and that began with a cover letter written and designed to look like the front page of newspaper.
I have been seriously studying the art of direct response copywriting for over 20 years and have written radio and television scripts that have aired in every major market in the US (some have even aired in Canada and the UK.) My copy is responsible for over 12 billion dollars in sales (frankly, I’ve lost count). I have also written press releases, print ads, email copy, digital ads, sales letters and direct mail pieces.
As a comic and performer, I have written countless comedy scripts, routines and shows. I have also created, marketed and sold several kid show props and routines to the children’s entertainers market (magicians, ventriloquists, clowns).
As marketing professional, I have written hundreds of articles, blog posts and several books. We published Gravitational Marketing with John Wiley & Sons (2008).
My latest writing adventure (and greatest love) is with children’s picture books. I self-published one in 2014 and handled the process from beginning to end (writing, revising, editing, finding an illustrator, art directing, layout, finding a printer, coordinating the print run, marketing and distribution). It was quite an adventure and through the process I learned two big things: 1. I love writing picture books. 2. I didn’t know anything about actually writing one.
So in 2014, I joined SCBWI and went headlong into learning how to write picture books for real. I have attended several SCBWI conferences. I have completed Anastasia Suen’s Rhyming Picture Book Course and her Intensive Picture Book Workshop. I am a member of Julie Hedlund’s 12 X 12 Picture Book Challenge. Have attending the Picture Book Summit and have studied Laura Backes’ Picture Book Writing Blueprints.
I have also taken courses from and mentored with Joyce Sweeney and am currently mentoring with Rob Sanders. My next goal is to find an agent who I can work with as a partner to bring my many ideas to market.
